ITINERARY
DAY 1 - Panama City
Upon arrival at Tocumen International Airport (PTY), you will be picked up and transferred to your city hotel where a welcome cocktail and a complete Tour Briefing will be presented to you. Enjoy your first night in Panama City!
DAY 2 - Old Panama Ruins/City Tour/Panama Canal Locks
Breakfast served at the hotel.
Guided Tour to the Old Panama Ruins and City Tour. Panama la Vieja, otherwise known as "Old Panama" in English, is situated just northeast of downtown Panama City. The city was founded by Pedrarias Davila in August of 1519, and is the oldest Spanish settlement on the Pacific. At one time a thriving city, Panama la Vieja benefited from the Portobelo trade fairs and most notably from Spain's great bullion lifeline (shipments were said to pass through Panama while en route from Peru's silver mines to Europe). Destroyed in 1671 during Sir Henry Morgan's invasion, the city was never rebuilt. In fact, the city center was relocated approximately 4.8 miles from the war torn ruins, and by the 1950's, Panama's new, modern city reached the ruins of Panama la Vieja. Declared a Historic Site in 1976.
We will then visit the Panama Canal's Miraflores Locks. Miraflores Locks are slightly over one mile long, from beginning to end. Finally, for your pleasure, some great shopping and leisure time in Panama City. Overnight in Panama City.
DAY 3 - Jungle Boat Adventure, Bass Fishing, and Visit to Monkey Island
Breakfast served at the hotel. The Bass fishing tour takes place in the Gatun Lake, one of the biggest man made lakes in the world. You will be picked up at 5:30a.m. for Bass Fishing and the tour ends at 12noon. The tour guide will take you to places where you can be able to catch up to 50 Peackock Bass in a just a 1/2 day! Bass fishing includes all fishing tackles, rods, live baits, drinks and snacks. Next, a Guided Jungle Boat Adventure inside the incredible Panama Canal and visit to the famous Monkey Island. Monkey Island is an island in the Panama Canal waterway complex.
Monkey Island is a living laboratory for monkey research by top scientists from around the world. The day tour includes a boat ride in the Panama Canal to the island where you will observe at least 4 kinds of monkeys cavorting in the rainforest. This trip is a sure family hit with half-day Fishing included with all gears provided, leisure and fun time in Panama City at night.
Portobelo
DAY 4 - Jungle Hike / Pirates in Portobelo / Caribbean Island (Isla Grande)
Breakfast served at the hotel.
The Jungle Hike is about 2 - 3 hours long and takes place inside the Soberania National Park, one of the best birding spots in Central Panama, through a good, easy graded dirt road that passes through a mature forest for about four miles. Next, we depart for The Caribbean Coast to Portobelo's Pirates Struck Ruins, a Spanish cannon filled fortress which dates back to 1502. During the 17th & 19th centuries, the Port of Portobelo served as a Spanish Fortress and Caribbean terminal. Products such as spices, gold and silver coming from Peru and other Spanish Colonies passed through to the Pacific side to await ships to transport them to Spain.
Portobelo was the victim of various pirate attacks, the most well known being the attack by Henry Morgan. The small island of Drake, where his remains are located, is another attraction. We will visit all the ruins of the colonial port including the custom house where the treasures and gold were stored and the Portobelo church, where the famous Black Christ statue rests. Afternoon at leisure and overnight in our Aguamarina Eco-Station at Isla Grande.
DAY 5 - Caribbean Island (Isla Grande)
Breakfast served at our Aguamarina Eco-Station. It would take all the exotic Caribbean cliches in the world to describe the beauty of this remote and beautiful island off the Caribbean coast near Portobelo.
(Note: The photo at the top of this offer is of Isla Grande.) Only three by 1 miles in size, it is inhabited by 300 people of African descent who make their living from fishing and coconuts. There are a handful of places to stay on the island and boats for rent. Guided Boat Tour to the Mangrove Crystal Water Ponds and nearby tropical inhabited Islands. Overnight in our Aguamarina Eco-Station at Isla Grande.
